KSD Municipality in collaboration with South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) handed over food parcels to Coffee Bay small scale fishers. A total of two hundred and forty-nine (249) community members benefited from the donation. The handover took place on 21th to 22th of October 2020 at KSD TVET College, Mapuzi Campus.
The programme is being done in partnership with SAMSA together with ABSA under SAMSA/ABSA COVID-19 Relief Intervention and Small-scale Fishers Training Programme.
The purpose of the intervention is to assist and provide immediate to near term essential food support to the vulnerable coastal communities in the Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal.
The CEO for SAMSA, Mr. Sobantu Tilayi mentioned that besides the food intervention, SAMSA is committed to work together with the fishing community of Coffee Bay to assist them to succeed in their oceans economy adventure.
SAMSA is currently building a structure at Mapuzi TVET College for boat repair and manufacturing which will see Coffee Bay community benefitting through the transfer of skills and job creation.
