“SA is currently at 64% when it comes to unemployment which is a clarion call to everyone to take action to change the situation and KSD has set its agenda along those lines.”
This is part of the KSD Executive Mayor Cllr Nyaniso Nelani speech during KSD Youth in business expo that was held on 17TH June 2021 at OR Tambo Hall.
The event came as a platform to recognise and engaged with young people that are in business with the aim to create employment for themselves.
Moreover, the expo was part of the programme set to commemorate the youth month.
The event was organised under a theme “Growing youth employment for an inclusive and transformed society.”
Executive Mayor indicated that KSD is aspiring to be a smart city which is as a pillar to drive the economy.
He further shared with young entrepreneurs the plans set aside by the municipality for youth which include the development of emerging contractors targeting 60% youth and women and other vulnerable groups and partnership with SETAs to support young graduates.
The mayor also outlined development that are underway which is Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Coffee Bay town, SANRAL road infrastructure upgrade and Vulindlela industrial park revitalisation.
KSD has also partnered with institutions of higher learning for capacity building and placement of graduates that will create employment opportunities and addition capacity to small businesses at no cost.
The mayor also encouraged youth to identify opportunities and make use of them to better their lives.
“I call all of you to occupy the right place you deserve in the economy and socially. Rise and demonstrate your creativity, innovation and energy for the benefit of yourselves and country like 1976 youth who defined their path.” Said the mayor.
The event was graced by Babalwa Mbuku, the founder and the CEO of Ntombam Sanitary Towel company.
Babalwa shared her journey as a businesswoman citing that being an entrepreneur is challenging and it needs patience in order to achieve your goals.
