Excitement was on the faces of the beneficiaries of the RDP houses handed-over by the King Sabata Dalindyebo Executive Mayor, Cllr Nyaniso Nelani on Tuesday, 28 February 2023 at New Payne Community Hall under Ward 30.
The KSD Executive Mayor, remembering the day this project was handed over to the contractor, said today is a beautiful day because promises are being fulfilled. He explained that KSD is changing gears in servicing communities and, bringing dignity back to the people. These 12 houses are part of a bigger project of houses being constructed as we speak. Executive Mayor added that the houses had to be handed over to avoid them being invaded and vandalised before their rightful owners can call them a home.
MMC for Human Settlement and Disaster Management, Cllr Nombulelo Sibeko gave the new homeowners a responsibility to take care of their newly acquired properties, which includes not selling or renting them out. She said, the government saw a need and fulfilled it, and selling or renting them out defeats that purpose.
One the beneficiaries, Mpumelelo Sontanga explained his previous living arrangements, and said it was not easy. When his key was handed to him by the Executive Mayor, he could not contain his excitement and said life for him and his little brother will change for the better.
