King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality together with South African National Road Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) visited Coffee Bay on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

The purpose of the visit was to assess progress on the pothole repair project that is implemented on the R411 Viedgesville to Coffee Bay Road. Secondly, the visit was conducted to assess the degree of damage to the three bridges that collapsed due to heavy rains that hit Coffee Bay in March this year. Furthermore, to introduce the appointed contractor to rebuild the bridges to the leadership of the Coffee Bay community, the contractor, Razzmatazz was appointed for the reconstruction of these bridges.

SANRAL has put aside a sum of R88 million towards the construction of Coffee Bay bridges and the project is scheduled for a period of 12 months.

KSD Acting Executive Mayor, Councillor Ziyanda Nokayi said, “We appreciate this development as it will make Coffee Bay accessible to the community and most importantly, this will lead to the booming of our local economy as the tourists will easily access our centres of attraction. I further urge the community of Coffee Bay to embrace this development, as it will change their lives by bringing much-needed job opportunities”.

The R411 Viedgesville to Coffee Bay Road was transferred from a provincial road to SANRAL in August 2022. It is (411) a major road leading to one of the well-known tourist attractions, the Hole in the Wall.
