King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality’s Rural and Economic Development Department partnered with Siphe Development and Capacitation Agency (SIDECA) with other stakeholders conducted the SIDECA Annual Farmers Information Day on 13 September 2024 at Kaplan Community Hall.
The purpose of this gathering was to share information, also to empower local and young farmers in the agricultural sector.
Standing in for the Executive Mayor, MMC/Cllr. S. Nyengane encouraged, specifically young people to think Agriculture as a career choice. He added that the Municipality also has plans in place to assist young farmers reach their fullest potential to not only aid economic development in the KSD jurisdiction but also provide for their families and create jobs.
Director of SIDECA, Miss Siphesihle Kwetana expressed her passion by saying her company wants to make agriculture fashionable and encouraged students in attendance to see Agriculture as a business and as a career of choice. She pleaded with teachers not to make it seem like a means of punishment in schools as that discourages young people to choose Agriculture as a career in the future.
Stakeholders present included DRDAR, Department of Education, Husqvarna, Starke Ayres, Kyocera, McDonald’s Seeds, Build it, NYDA, among others.
