A large crowd assembled at Mthatha City Hall to witness when mayor Nyaniso Nelani switched on the Christmas tree.
The ceremony also took place in Mqanduli town on Tuesday, prior to the Mthatha one.
The switch-on moment was preceded by a Safer Festive Season Launch with the goal of promoting safety on our roads and ensuring that the community and visitors are always safe.
During his keynote speech, Mayor Nyaniso Nelani emphasized the progress the Municipality has made in combating crime. He mentioned the establishment of the NIU police unit and the placement of cameras throughout the city.
He also shared with the audience the unqualified audit opinion that the municipality has received for two years in a row.
He declared, “We will keep working hard until we receive a clean audit, which is a step ahead.”
In addition, the Municipality has received recognition as a secondary city and has also been awarded the status of a developer, both of which contribute to our goal of developing into a metropolitan municipality.
