The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment has handed over a refuse compactor truck to KSD Municipality. The truck that was handed over on Thursday, December 8, 2022, as part of a sponsorship to support the ongoing efforts of the Municipality to improve waste management.
The truck will play a pivotal role in cleaning programmes of the Municipality. These programmes include cleaning campaigns that the Municipality has introduced which are being implemented every week since August 2022.
These campaigns are not just meant for cleaning but also aim to raise awareness in the community regarding negative impact on littering, illegal dumping, methods to dispose trash and waste recycling.
Additionally, the Municipality has temporarily restricted public access to the municipal gardens from 1 December 2022 until 30 April 2023. The closure will give the municipality time to do some significant lawn and flowerbed maintenance, which will enhance the area’s aesthetic appeal to the local population and visitors.
To grow plant species, the Municipality is also starting to revive its nursery. For the purpose of enhancing the beauty and greening of KSD towns, these species will be planted around urban and public places.
These initiatives complement the recent projects that have been conducted by the Municipality of revamping the dilapidated sidewalks on the various streets of Mthatha and renovation of public toilets.
The goal of these initiatives is to maintain a beautiful and clean environment of KSD that we can all be proud of and to create favourable conditions for investment attraction.
