Joint safety operation conducted to curb crime

A successful two-day joint operation with the South African Police Service (SAPS), the EC Department of Transport and Community Safety, King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality and various government departments was conducted on Friday, 18 November 2022. The main objective of the Crime Prevention Operation was to address and curb various crimes from taking place within the KSD jurisdiction.
MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mr Xolile Nqatha and KSD Executive Mayor, Cllr Nyaniso Nelani visited and participated in the roadblock which was on the N2 next to Makhaphetshwini area and further led the operation with Major General Cetyane, O.R Tambo District Commissioner to carry out the operation in the hot spot areas that were targeted in Mthatha CBD.
The operation was focused on but not limited to the stop & search for dangerous weapons and firearm, raiding of illegal liquor outlets, compliance inspection on businesses operating in the CBD and surroundings, and illegal connection of electricity.
Cables involved in illegal connection of electricity were seized in Decolyn on the first day of the operation. Arrests of illegal immigrants and wanted suspects were also made. Police found and confiscated firearms, dangerous weapons and ammunition. KSD Law enforcement acted swiftly and intercepted three alleged robbers in R61 next to old Nkululekweni during the operation.
