The KSD Department of Public Safety and Transport Management, in collaboration with the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI): HAWKS, conducted a Workshop on Prevention of Fraud and Corruption on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, at Mthatha Stadium.
The aim of the workshop was to create awareness and equip Public Safety and Traffic Management staff members on fraud and corruption.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Public Safety and Transport Management, Cllr. M. Marasha, mentioned the importance of capacitating the staff about fraud and corruption, saying that the corruption starts with small things that are being taken lightly but can result in jail time and job loss. It is therefore crucial to encourage and warn officials to not engage in fraud and corruption.
As part of the HAWKS presentation, Colonel M.Z. Mkuzo outlined the forms of corruption, which include misuse of official resources, abuse of power, bribery, forgery & uttering, maladministration, etc.
He also explained the Pillars of the Fraud and Corruption Prevention Strategy and warned Public Safety officials not to engage in any form of corruption, or else the Hawks will take action against them.
Director for Public Safety and Transport Management, Mr. F. Dinisa emphasised that the role for Public Safety is to combat crime, not partake in crime.
