To ensure the safety of consumables in our spaza shops, KSD Municipality, led by Executive Mayor Cllr. G. N. Nelani, embarked on a campaign to inspect spaza shops operating within KSD jurisdiction.
The Municipality is conducting these inspections to protect communities from buying and consuming expired or contaminated food, which we have seen could cause detrimental effects to people, particularly children.
The Municipality is working closely with SARS, Department of Home Affairs, SAPS, and O.R. Tambo District Municipality to ensure compliance in these establishments.
Confiscated food products will be destroyed to make sure that they are not consumed by anyone. The Municipality is committed to keeping KSD communities safe from ingesting such products because they cause harm.
