The office of the Speaker of Council led by Cllr. N. Siyo – Sokutu , the Council Speaker held a Civic Education Workshop in Mqhekezweni, (Ward 18) on 07 December 2022.
The workshop was aimed at educating members of the community about government services and responsibilities and also raising awareness on Gender Based Violence and Femicide.
Speaking at the gathering, the Hon. Speaker reiterated the position of the Municipality in the fight against crime, Drugs and Substance abuse and Gender Based Violence and Femicide, particularly during the 16 days of Activism.
Attendees also benefited in that the Budget and Treasury Section unpacked the Indigent Policy and members were allowed to ask clarity seeking questions.
The gathering was also graced by the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture and they explained Name Change processes in terms of the South African Geographical Names Act of 1998.
