On the Wednesday, 18th of June 2024, King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality’s Rural Economic Development Department conducted LED Forum Stakeholder Engagement Session focusing on agriculture at Mthatha Stadium.
The aim of this session is to engage agricultural stakeholders to address the food security and nutrition crisis, since RED is tasked with the responsibility of developing and coordinating the functioning of the agricultural sector.
In his welcoming remarks, MMC for Local Economic Development, Cllr. M. Dudumayo encouraged commercial farming, stating that it is a good way to create work opportunities. He added that, it is important to consume what is produced within KSD and that this platform is to address farming related challenges that hinder that plan.
LED Director, Mr M. Mandla spoke of the importance of information sharing in sessions like these saying, one gains the know-how, to being the best commercial farmer, which will in turn improve food security within KSD.
Stakeholders who were in attendance were DRDAR, Ntinga OR Tambo Development Agency, DALRRD, ECRDA, Garden Court, Eyoluntu Market Agency and ECDC, all working together to serve local farmers to address the food security issues of this region.
