KSD INSPECTORS RECEIVE TRAINING TO DEAL WITH ALCOHOL ABUSE

Executive Mayor Cllr. Nelani officiated a ceremony where law enforcement officers received certification in liquor regulation inspection, empowering them to effectively enforce compliance among liquor traders.

This milestone follows a comprehensive training program conducted by the Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB), aimed at equipping 43 inspectors with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure licensed liquor traders operate within the bounds of the law.

This initiative is a government effort to tackle and reduce alcohol abuse in our communities, which is one of the contributing causes of crime.

Speaking at the ceremony held on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, at Mthatha Stadium, KSD Executive Mayor stated that the liquor inspectors ensure that the sale and consumption of liquor is done within the specified rule and regulations. He expressed his concern about the alcohol abuse by high school and university learners, citing some hotspots around Mthatha.

The inspectors are trained to enforce bylaws, including public nuisance and noise pollution.
