KSD Mayor engages Ward 03 residents at Mayoral Imbizo

As required by the constitution to conduct public participation and bring government closer to the people, King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Nyaniso Nelani held a Mayoral Imbizo on Thursday, September 14, 2023. The gathering was held at Mthatha Technical School Sport Ground in Ward 03. This Ward is comprised of Ngangelizwe, Phase 04, Waterfall Park, Mdlekeza and New Brighton.

The objective of the outreach was to update Ward 03 residents about service delivery initiatives that are expected to have an impact on the local economy and improve the quality of life. Additionally, to provide the community a chance to discuss the problems with service delivery that they are experiencing.

Addressing the gathering, Executive Mayor highlighted development projects earmarked to stimulate our local economy. He added that seventeen precincts designated for development by the Municipality have been identified and are at various levels of development. The Mthatha Eastern Precinct Plan, which includes Ward 03, is part of those precincts. The municipality is working hard to find the resources needed to carry out the plans.

“I promise you that it is just a matter of time to see the change in our Municipality. We call therefore on everybody to join us and share those ideas and advice.” He said.

The Wild Coast Industrial Park, he continued, is moving extremely well in terms of building out bulk infrastructure, and he mentioned that some companies have signed contracts to start off business.

“Our focus is not only in Mthatha but there are projects going on at Mqanduli and Coffee Bay towns” he said.

Concluding his speech, he mentioned that KSD Municipality is part of the District Development Model (DDM), which enables all government departments to coordinate planning and resource sharing. This would help the Municipality acquire the resources required to support its plans.

The residents raised their challenges such as provision of housing, water supply interruptions and blocked sanitation calling to the Municipality to address those issues.
