KSD Mayor holds bilateral meeting with Ethiopian Ambassador

KSD Executive Mayor Cllr. G.N. Nelani had a visit from His Excellency DR Muktar Kedir Abdu who is an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Republic of South Africa to discuss and strengthen the bilateral relations between our two nations. The visit that occurred on November 17, 2023, aimed to foster diplomatic ties and explore potential areas of collaboration, further enhancing the existing partnership.

During the meeting, Ambassador Muktar Kedir Abdu engaged in productive discussions on various topics of mutual interest, including trade, investment, cultural exchanges, and education. Both parties expressed their commitment to deepening the ties between Ethiopia and South Africa at a local government level recognizing the potential for economic growth and cultural enrichment that such collaboration can bring.

Ambassador DR Muktar Kedir Abdu’s expressed admiration for KSD’s deep rich history, vibrant culture, and remarkable achievements and especially because former President Nelson Mandela is born and bred in Mthatha under KSD municipality.

Former President Nelson Mandela also received military training and given passport in Ethiopia.

The Executive Mayor expressed his gratitude for the Ambassador’s visit, emphasizing the importance of fostering strong international relationships. He underscored KSD’s commitment to promoting global cooperation and creating opportunities for citizens and businesses alike. The Executive Mayor also extended an invitation to Ambassador Muktar Kedir Abdu to explore potential areas of collaboration, such as cultural exchanges, tourism promotion, and trade partnerships.

Both Ambassador Muktar Kedir Abdu’s and Executive Mayor Cllr. G.N. Nelani expressed optimism about the future of the bilateral relationship between Ethiopia and KSD. They agreed to work closely together to identify concrete steps and initiatives that will further strengthen the ties and benefit both nations.
