In efforts to improve the living conditions of KSD communities, King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality visited three wards to introduce contractors for the construction of access roads.
The first construction includes a bridge and 13 km long gravel road that will cover Qweqwe, Upper Qweqwe, Maqhinebeni and Ntshele villages under ward 33. The construction will be undertaken by Tyeks Plant Hire and Construction company.
The second project is of Ngxoki, Qolweni to Xhwili and Mtirara School access road in Ward 19. This access road will be built by Mathafamahle Projects and Iphupha Investment. The 8.4 km stretch includes 3.2 km long of the existing road and 5.2 km long virgin road. The construction includes installing storm water pipes, building stone pitches and erecting road signs.
Sigodini access road is also one of the roads that will be built. The 8.4 km stretch road will be constructed by Malimiso Projects.
Part of the project scope includes the clearing and grubbing 8.4km long and 5m wide then prepare roadbed of the same length and width. A processed 150mm gravel layer will be put in place then laying of 600mm diameter stormwater pipes and stone pitching. There will be also a construction of inlet and outlet structures and the erection of road signs.
A number of eight (8) locals and a minimum of six (6) subcontractors are expected to benefit from these construction projects. The projects will be implemented within six months, maximum.
As per KSD Municipality Annual Report for 2021 to 2022 fiscal year about 200km of gravel road that the municipality has constructed.
The purpose of the construction of access roads is to provide the rural communities with access to schools, emergency services, health care services, public transport and to connect the villages.
