KSD Municipality ushered in the festive spirit with a dazzling Tree Lighting Ceremony, held simultaneously in Mqanduli and Mthatha. This joyful event marked the official beginning of the 2025 holiday season, inviting residents to revel in the magic of the season and celebrate the community’s accomplishments. The ceremony was held at Mqanduli on the 11th of December and at Mthatha the following day.
Prior to the Tree Lighting, a safety launch took place, emphasizing the importance of secure roads and crime prevention during the holidays. This proactive measure ensures a worry-free celebration for all, fostering a sense of community and cooperation.
Cllr. N. Siyo-Sokutu, the KSD Speaker, expressed gratitude for the unity between the Municipality and its communities. She cited the year’s achievements that are worth to be celebrated, attributing them to collaborative efforts and encouraging continued unity as KSD moves forward.
The Executive Mayor, Cllr N. Nelani, highlighted KSD Municipality’s strides to improve KSD, including the acquisition of a new fleet, speed camera installation, revitilisation of the swimming pool, and obtaining of unqualified audit results for the 4th time in a row.
To beef up the crime-combating efforts, the Municipality is in the process of installing 134 CCTV cameras.
Stakeholders also formed part of the programme and they gave the word of support.
In his closing remarks, Chief Whip emphasised the importance of sustainable job creation through entrepreneurship, urging businesses to shift their focus from the tender system. He stated that while the Municipality has a role to create a conducive environment for the economy to thrive, the business sector has a responsibility to create jobs. He thanked the security cluster for the joint efforts in fighting crime and extended words of gratitude to everyone in attendance.
