In a bid to keep our roads maintained and drivable, KSD Municipality is embarking on a pothole patching programme. The ongoing maintenance is implemented internally using the new machines, which are asphalt paver and pneumatic roller, that were bought by the municipality early last year. The municipality acquired these machines with the aim of strengthening our in-house capacity and curbing costs.
The patching programme that started in April last year, targeting main streets and taxi routes, is set to finish in June 2023. A sum of 3 million rand has been committed to carry out the work.
Some of the streets that received a makeover include King Fisher, Flamingo Drive, Sigal and Cormorant in Southernwood; Asbos and Gqunube streets in Ikhwezi Extension; and some streets in the CBD such as Wesley, Cumberland and Hospital Road.
The team is currently working on John Deer Drive in Northcrest and will proceed to Southridge on Chief Jojo and Chief Holomisa streets, followed by Season Street in Fortgale.
Further to that, the Municipality is also in a process to rehabilitate King Edward Street. The revamping will assist in easing traffic on N2 Road through fixing the alternative routers for motorists. A tune of R21 million has been set aside for the project. The construction is expected to be completed by end of the year.
