As teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence are among the challenges faced by our society, KSD Municipality’s Special Programmes Unit, in partnership with Elomso Africa, Vodacom and Old Mutual, embarked on a Teen Dating Violence Awareness campaign. The programme was held Sinolwazi SSS on the 28 February and at Atwell Madala High School the following day.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about teen dating violence and promote safe and healthy relationships.
Furthermore, the programme seeks to prevent gender-based violence and teenage Pregnancy as well as promote safe, healthy relationships while encouraging learners to remain in school. Learners are also encouraged to speak out when faced with social challenges.
Teenagers are equipped with the relationship spectrum, which details indicators of a healthy, non-healthy, and abusive relationship. They are also taught non-verbal signs of agreement and non-agreement, besides the yes or no verbal sign, to engage in sexual activity.
Poetry on Healthy Relationships contest winners went home with a goodie bags containing a dairy book, pen and lanyard.
