MUNICIPAL PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE EMBARK ON DEPARTMENTAL ENGAGEMENTS

Members of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) have started on a high note by engaging various departments within the Municipality to strengthen accountability, transparency and good governance.

In his welcoming remarks, MPAC Chairperson Councillor Makhosandile Majeke emphasized that MPAC serves as a foundation of governance, ensuring that municipal programmes, projects and financial management practices are fully aligned with the needs, priorities and expectations of the community.

These departmental engagements form part of MPAC’s oversight responsibility to ensure that public funds are used effectively and in the best interest of the community. The sessions provide a platform for departments to present their performance reports, outline challenges and highlight progress made in service delivery.

Members of MPAC also asked questions during engagements and the departments were afforded an opportunity to answer questions and gave clarities to the members of the Committee.

The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) has successfully engaged with the following departments:

Corporate services

Community services

Rural Economic Development (RED)

Budget and Treasury Office (BTO)

Engagements with other departments are scheduled for the 20 February 2026
