King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality, in partnership with the Eastern Cape Office of the Premier, Harmony Gold, the TEBA Foundation, and the O.R. Tambo District Municipality, handed over 125 beds, bedding sets, blankets, and food parcels to disaster-affected families in Mqanduli on Friday, 5 June 2026.

The donation forms part of ongoing efforts to support communities impacted by the devastating floods that struck KSD on 10 June 2025. The disaster claimed 79 lives and left many families homeless, with significant losses of personal belongings and property.

The assistance was made possible through Harmony Gold in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Office of the Premier. During the handover, KSD Executive Mayor, Cllr G.N. Nelani, commended the strong partnership between government and the private sector, highlighting the importance of collective action in responding to disasters and supporting vulnerable communities.

Acting Executive Mayor of the O.R. Tambo District Municipality, Cllr N. Gcingca, encouraged residents to adhere to disaster risk reduction measures and climate change adaptation guidelines aimed at minimizing the impact of future natural disasters.

The handover brought much-needed relief to affected families and demonstrated the continued commitment of stakeholders to rebuilding lives and restoring dignity to communities recovering from the effects of the floods.
