In an effort to strengthen the local economy and generate employment, King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality intends to establish an automotive sector . Along with other projects such as the Wild Coast Special Economic Zone and the revitalization of the Vulindlela Heights Industrial Park, this is one of the anchor projects that are in the works. The major projects are prepared to draw private sector investment.
The automotive precinct development has been earmarked for the northern part of Mthatha and is currently in the feasibility stage. The idea is a joint vision of the municipality and the automotive sector to develop KSD into a destination for the auto industry.
The development node, which will be developed through a public-private collaboration, will be made up of various vehicle manufacturers.
Subsequently, the project will benefit the locals as it will employ more than 500 people during construction and on completion. Furthermore, it will contribute to the Municipality revenue and position it to be the strongest economic hub in the province.
