KSD Municipality officially opened the long-awaited revamped Mthatha swimming pool. The revamping of the pool demonstrates the Municipality’s commitment to providing recreational facilities for the development of KSD communities.
The revamping comes after this significant asset, built in 1978, was vandalised a decade ago. The project started in 2023 and has 3 components, which include the revitalisation of a swimming pool, which has a side for children, a park, and a nursery. These are efforts of the King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality to bring Mthatha to its former glory.
Stakeholders praised the KSD Municipality for its efforts to improve Mthatha. The swimming clubs committed to working with the municipality to help the children be water-safe by giving them the basics of swimming and training youth to keep them away from substance abuse and crime.
In delivering the keynote address, the Executive Mayor, Cllr N. Nelani, expressed his excitement that the KSD Municipality delivered one of the things that the KSD community always wanted.
He said that “We are here to celebrate the significant milestone of the reopening of the Mthatha swimming pool, which is a testament to our commitment to improve the lives of KSD, in particular the youth.”
“A swimming pool is more than just a recreational facility but a symbol of hope, opportunity, and our commitment to our children’s future, a place where they can learn to swim, compete, and excel. It is a place to develop a crucial life skill so that people can be safe around water.”
The Executive Mayor commended the leadership of the KSD Municipality for the commitment to improving the delivery of services and prioritizing the swimming pool, as it is one of the community’s needs.
Concluding his speech, the Executive Mayor urged KSD residents to safeguard the pool from vandalism and stealing, saying that in the process of using and enjoying it, people must protect it as well.
