From time to time the Municipality is mandated to conduct outreach initiatives to bridge the gap between the municipality and its citizens.
As a result, KSD Municipality, led by the Honourable Speaker, Cllr. N. Siyo-Sokutu, has on Tuesday, 06 May 2024, held an Outreach Programme at Maiden Farm under Ward 09.
The aim was to bring services closer to the people and allow residents to raise their concerns related to service delivery and get answers thereof.
Residents voiced their issues related to housing provision, water and sanitation, road maintenance, refuse collection, crime, youth empowerment, and other issues. The municipality brought along sector departments such as Human Settlements, Social Development, SASSA, National Prosecution Authority (NPA), Health, Rural Development and Agrarian Reform to share information about government services and to respond to community concerns.
While addressing the community, the Speaker encouraged the community to first exhaust all avenues to log their grievances before they embark on community protest.
“Access to government services is your constitutional right, not a privilege. You have a right to demand delivery of services from your government.” She said.
Standing on behalf of the Executive Mayor, the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC), Cllr N. Gwebani, mentioned that the government is bound by the law to bring services closer to the communities and pleaded with communities to trust the government as it is doing all in its power to bring services to the people.
