KSD unveiled its brand-new fleet of vehicles on Tuesday, 02 December 2025, which marked an important move forward in service delivery. The event was held at Gerald Hawkes Stadium, formerly known as Mthatha Stadium.
The acquisition of these vehicles reflects the municipality’s dedication to fulfilling community needs and boosting efficiency.
In his keynote address, the Executive Mayor, Cllr N. Nelani, said that the fleet acquired follows the Council decision to beef up the fleet in order to improve service delivery.
“This initiative is a KSD stride in accelerating service delivery and is adding to milestones worth celebrating, such as the installation of cameras, the refurbishment of a public swimming pool that is soon to be opened and obtaining an unqualified audit opinion for four consecutive years.” He stated.
He continued saying that these assets need to be protected by all of us, so the municipality decided to introduce it to the KSD community.
Stakeholders praised the leadership of KSD Municipality for investing in assets that will improve service delivery and bring a positive change to the lives of the people of KSD.
The diverse fleet comprises graders (3), excavator (1), backfoot roller (1), minibuses (2), double cabs (9), single cabs (3), sedans (6) and 1 tractor, ensuring that the municipality is well-equipped to handle various tasks and projects.
Additional fleet to be added will include water cuts (2), a compactor (1), a skip loader (1), a cage truck (1), a 10-ton rollback (1), an extra cab (1) and one double cab.
The Municipality will ensure that they are tracked to address misuse and to ensure that they are used for their purpose.
In closing remarks, KSD Chief Whip, Cllr. B. Mlanjeni echoed the mayor’s words, saying the Council saw a need to increase the fleet to expedite service delivery. He cited that, for the municipality to bring services to the communities, it depends on revenue collection, so businesses and ratepayers must ensure that they pay rates and services.
Chief Whip commended the administration for following the required procurement processes during the purchasing of this fleet.
He concluded by urging the community to collaborate with the municipality, emphasising that collective efforts are crucial for progress and prosperity.
