A R30 million school has been officially opened at Mvezo. The school known as Makgatho Lewanika Primary School is named after the political stalwarts which are Mr Sefako Makgatho, the  second ANC president, King Lebusi Lewanika of Zambia who attended the finding Conference of the ANC and Dr Nelson Mandela, the South African First Black President. The event was attended by a high profile delegation which included President Jacob Zuma, Minister of Basic Education, Ms Angie Motshekga, Eastern Cape MEC of Basic Education, Mr Mandla Makupula, Chinese Ambassadar, Directors of Chung Hon Dak Foundation, Miss World, Miss Rolene Strauss, KSD Executive Mayor, Councillor Nonkoliso Ngqongwa and other Eastern Cape MEC’s and Government Officials.   

Speaking at the event which was fully packed by the attendees, the Mvezo Chief, Mr Mandla ‘Ah Zwelivelile’ Mandela encouraged the youth to stay away from drugs and concentrate on their studies so that they can be like great people such as the South African Icon, Dr Nelson Mandela and other political stalwarts. President Jacob Zuma called upon the learners to follow on the footsteps of the late giant of struggle, Dr Nelson Mandela. He further quoted Madiba giant and said ‘Learners must use education as the most powerful weapon to change the world’. 30 learners from Mvezo will study at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University next year as per the agreement reached between Mvezo and the learning institution.
