KSD Municipality officially launched Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM). The launch took place on 11 April 2018 at Mqhekezweni Great Place, where the icon of the struggle and the first black President of South Africa, Dr Nelson Mandela grew up. The programme aimed at mobilising communities to work together to combat moral degeneration and revive positive values of the society. It also aimed at addressing issues of development, social cohesion and nation building.
The Speaker of KSDM Council, Cllr Nontyatyambo Gcingca stated that the purpose of the programme is to partner with government dapartments, NGO’s, Traditional Leaders and communities at large to restore the dignity of the democracy through reviving the neglected traditional values of the society. She further indicated that the programme is launched as part of celebrating Nelson Mandela Centenary (100 years) and these are efforts to uphold the values and standards of Nelson Mandela.
“The programme will be implemented in all wards of KSDM and will also serve as a platform to assists young people through creating youth dialogues and provide them with skills empowerment programmes,” she said.
The Provincial Deputy Chairperson of Moral Regeneration Movement Chief Nkosinathi Jezile officially introduced the KSD Moral Regeneration committee. The committee will facilitate and coordinate processes and initiatives of Moral Regeneration Programme across KSD wards. The event was graced by various government departments, Traditional Leaders, schools from Mqhekezweni surroundings and community at large.
His Majesty the Acting King of AbaThembu Azenathi Zanelizwe Dalindyebo called upon to the community to stand up and fight for moral decay and be the legacy in making the country a better one for all. The event saw the Acting King and the Speaker of KSDM planting trees as a symbol of hope for the positive impact of Moral Regeneration Programme in rebuilding a better society.
