KSD Municipality’s Tourism Department with the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency conducted a Joint Tourism Safety and Domestic Awareness Programme.
The event, which was held on Thursday,13 June at Mthatha Stadium, started off with a Safety Awareness Walk from Ultra City to Nelson Mandela Museum, Bhunga Building.
The Municipality and ECPTA saw the need to intervene, to raise awareness and point out consequences of crime that is directed to tourists.
In the past few years crime levels escalated and our tourists get mugged before they reach their destinations when they visit our province. The government condemns such criminality as it causes detrimental effects on the lives of those victimized and the province’ economy.
OR Tambo District Municipality, National Department of Tourism, Eastern Cape Gambling& Betting, Eastern Parks& Tourism Agency, SAPS, Road Traffic Infringement Agency, Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs& Tourism, Border Management Agency were also part of this event.
Tourists are advised to use the Security App called SecureApp which was developed by ECPTA or use one of the tour guides which are identified by this Agency.
