KSD Ward 8 senior citizens can teach the youngsters a thing or two about keeping their bodies active and fit. What started as a party of five in a single street grew into a full-blown fitness club that meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
As words of encouragement to the Ward 8 Elderly Fitness Club, Cllr. Andile Majeke highlighted that this initiative is much needed for social cohesion and thanked the individual interests in keeping active. This fitness club is at no cost to the participants and Agape Caring Center (NGO) and the instructor are working on a voluntary basis.
From walk-running to aerobics, their instructor, Mr Sipho Faasi, together with the AGAPE Caring Center sure are keeping them healthy and active. Ward 8 Councillor also made a call to the youth to hop in on this moving train of active living, as it picks up speed.
According to one of the participants, Mrs Fundiswa Qwase, this fitness club changed her life after her operation. She said she was unable to walk or drive and all of that gradually changed after she joined in May.
These retirees also visit the homes of those unable to join them at the grounds due to immobility, to help them with easy movements as exercise. Anyone is welcome to join in and start their journey to a more active lifestyle.
