KSD Municipality, in partnership with the South African Council for Graduates (SACGRA) launched a Youth Employment Programme on 11 of September 2024 at Mayfair Hotel. The programme which is led by SACGRA, seeks to support learners and young unemployed graduates by facilitating and securing work exposure through internships, learnership, and work-integrated learning.
As a result, more than 150 unemployed graduates from the KSD area have been offered internship opportunities. The internships will pay between R3500 and R5000 per month for a duration of 12 to 18 months.
SACGRA has invested R8.5 million in this initiative, according to its founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Thamsanqa Maqubela. He appreciated KSD Municipality (as a host employer) for affording young graduates an opportunity to obtain real-world work experience and transferable skills that will help them land employment or launch their own businesses. He encouraged graduates to take this opportunity to learn and showcase their capabilities.
Delivering the keynote address, the Acting Executive Mayor, who is also the Portfolio Head for Corporate Services, Cllr N. Gwebani, appreciated SACGA for this fruitful partnership that started in 2022 and aimed at empowering the young people. “This initiative not only provides financial support but also offers invaluable work experience that will undoubtedly shape the future career of our young professionals.” He said.
Interns expressed their gratitude for the opportunity that has been offered by SACGRA and KSD Municipality.
