The Speaker of the King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipal Council, the honourable Cllr N. Siyo-Sokutu, conducted a Community Outreach on the 10th of October 2024 in Xhorhana Village which is part of Mqanduli.
The meeting’s objectives were to increase public access to government, involve locals in concerns about the provision of services, address issues impacting the Ward 22, and present the Municipality’s development plans to the community.
The Speaker of the Council in her speech touched on the increase of crime rate which leads to the abuse and killing of women and children. The Municipality also has to deal with issue of communities, particularly young people, not registering to vote which has a negative impact on services delivery.
Standing in for Executive Mayor, MMC, Cllr. S. Nyengane, presented a report on service delivery issues. The report highlighted the National Treasury’s report, which showed that the Municipality performed well in terms of spending service delivery grants; the government’s efforts to combat rampant crime, including extortion, which had a significant negative impact on businesses; and the plan for road construction and maintenance that will be put into action during this financial year (2024/2025).
The Department of Health, SAPS, SASSA, NPA, and Social Development were among the departments that participated in this program and contributed their various services.
