King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality handed over a new fleet worth R120 million. The fleet has been purchased through a five year loan from First National Bank (FNB). The fleet includes more than 50 units of machinery that will be used for road upgrade, waste collection, street lights maintenance, farming and grass cutting. This investment of new fleet will see not only speeding up but also quality services being delivered to all KSD communities. Issues of dirty streets, roads that are not accessible and people moving on dark streets will now be something of the past.
In addition the Municipality also launched a Speed Enforcement and Road Block Bus to ensure safety on roads and Traffic Laws are adhered to. The bus is equipped with the latest technology to detect any traffic fines, self-sensing through registration number plates of all outstanding Traffic fines and processing payment of outstanding fines through manual and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).
Delivering his keynote address, Executive Mayor Cllr Dumani Zozo shared insight on efforts of the Municipality in endeavors to implement its mandate of effectively delivering services to communities of KSD.
“The Municipality has engaged itself on a “Project Accelerate KSD” in order to improve the lives of the society and change the image of the Municipality. As the besetting challenges like roads infrastructure and refuse collection could not be addressed through Municipal budget alone, the Municipality took a giant step to purchase a fleet of R120 million through FNB partnership. The fleet bought comes as a contribution to celebrate Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu Centenary to serve and change the lives of the people”. He said.
“Plans to ensure that the fleet is properly managed and that plant operators are equipped through a refresher training will be put in place.” Added the Mayor.
Executive Mayor also indicated that ten tractors were also procured to assist farming co-operatives as the main catalyst in addressing poverty in the region.
Amongst the dignitaries who graced the event was the MEC for Department of Transport, Ms Weziwe Tikane who gave a message of support. The MEC congratulated the Municipality for the great initiative and pledged to support the Municipality.
“The department will look at signing a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the Municipality to maintain all provincial roads that are within Municipal boundaries”, she said. The MEC further pressed and encouraged officials to use the fleet with diligence and be disciplined. She wrapped by a call to communities to support government developmental initiatives that will benefit KSD citizens.
