University of Stellenbosch Military Academy paid KSD Municipality a visit. These are the efforts to strengthen partnership with SANDF and KSD Municipality. The visit was to introduce and outline Trans ENDURO outreach programme that the military students will be embarking on as from 25 November till 08 December 2018.
Trans ENDURO is an annual endurance race, planned, funded and executed by students of the Military Academy in support of Masiza community outreach programme, whist travelling through various coastal Municipalities between East London and Saldanha Bay. According to the team leader Col Nelson Dlamini who is also the Chief of Staff, the race usually starts from Port Elizabeth, East London then to Saldanha Bay. However, this year the University decided to start the race from Qunu as part of Nelson Mandela Centenary celebrations. Through the funds that the students fundraised during the exercise, Trans Enduro will be lending a hand and assists community projects that the Municipality will identify.
Executive Mayor, Cllr Dumani Zozo warmly welcomed the team citing that KSD Municipality has forged partnership with SANDF and having Stellenbosch Military Academy launching its programme at KSD is motivating. He added that besides construction of bridges by SANDF in some KSD areas the Municipality would love to see the partnership benefitting the young people as it is necessary to build and support the youth because they are the future and the leaders of tomorrow.
The meeting was also attended by Prince Siganeko Dalindyebo from AbaTembu Kingdom. He appreciated the gesture from Trans ENDURO to partake in touching people’s lives. He also urged everyone to respond to the President’s call “Thuma Mina” to change the country for the better. Various preparatory teams has been established by both institutions to ensure that the programme is a success.
