KSD Municipality remains committed in addressing issues of cleanliness and waste management. Great strides have been made towards achieving this goal including clean-up and adopt a street campaigns which have been seen forming partnerships with private and public sectors.
Part of those efforts is to ensure that our towns have got ablution amenities that are functioning, clean and safe for public to use when away from home. As a result, the Municipality has on the 13 July 2021 unveiled the project for design and construction of public toilets for both Mthatha and Mqanduli towns.
An amount of R2267 million has been set aside for this project that is meant to preserve the dignity of our community members. This work is targeting the revamping of public toilets at Munitata building and Northcrest Taxi Rank. The scope also includes an additional of ablution facilities at Mthatha City Hall in order to maintain the public space clean.
“We are excited for this development for our municipality. Our plan is to have clean towns like of Kigali City in Rwanda. These are our efforts as the municipality to ensure that our community members and visitors have decent ablution services to help themselves and to promote hygiene as well.” Cited KSD executive mayor, Cllr Nyaniso Nelani.
A minimum of ten locals are expected to benefit during this development and it is set to take a period of eight months.
