In efforts to curb crime and protect municipal assets KSD Municipality had on Monday 19 July 2021 unveil closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras that have been recently installed. The installation is being done in phases and this first one is focusing on protecting municipal assets and the next phase is intending to cover the whole surroundings of both Mthatha and Mqanduli. These cameras have been installed with an amount of R495 million.
In addition to that, the municipality launched a new uniform for the Law enforcement officers which is in line with municipal goals to improve the enforcement of by-laws.
The Municipality also officially re-opened the Vehicle Testing Station near Vela school at Thorn Hill. This station to ensure that vehicles conform to roadworthy standard and improve road traffic safety.
KSD Executive Mayor, Cllr Nyaniso Nelani mentioned that these initiatives are municipal efforts to improve the municipal public safety services as well as traffic services. Concurrently, this is also a drive towards a target of being a metropolitan municipality and smart city.
