King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality has recently made a breakthrough regarding six (6) housing projects that were previously blocked during their implementation stage. These projects were initially executed by the Provincial Department of Human Settlements.
As a result of this breakthrough, the municipality has been in various wards with a purpose to introduce building contractors that have been appointed to build these houses.
The projects involve five hundred and eighty (580) units in total and the construction is expected to be finished within a period of 12 months starting from October 2021.
A budget of R32 million has been set aside for completions these projects.
In meeting to introduce a contractor that will build seventy-two (72) units Payne Location, ward 32, the KSD Executive Mayor, Cllr Nyaniso Nelani revealed that the municipality has been awarded by Human Settlements a status of being a developer.
“In order to speed up the processes, Human Settlements has credited KSD Municipality to manage the processes including the appointment of the contractors. However, the Human Settlements will remain playing a role through funding and monitoring these projects.” He said.
“Given a chance to be an implementing agent is a milestone to us as this is in line with our vision of being a metropolitan municipality in 2026.” Concluded the mayor.
These projects to be completed are in areas such as New Payne, Mahlungulu, Willow, Zidindi and Ntshabeni.
