KSD Executive Mayor, Honourable Nyaniso Nelani embarked on a joint Road Safety and Crime Prevention campaign launch today in conjunction with SAPS, Provincial Traffic and KSD Public Safety at Decoligny junction R61. The campaign was launched to ensure public safety as we approach the Easter Holidays. Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Public Transport, Community Safety and Liason, Cllr Mlawuli Marasha as well as senior management and other officials were present at the launch.

The Easter weekend is a peak season when people embark on road trips to visit their loved ones in and around KSD Municipal jurisdiction. Traffic is at a maximum and road fatalities peak during this time due to a range of factors which include reckless and negligent driving. Speeding, unroadworthy vehicles and driving under the influence of alcohol are all contributory factors. This has necessitated the municipality to launch the operation to safeguard road users and communities.

Cars were searched and checked for road-worthiness, licences were checked and law enforcement was implemented to ensure smooth traffic flow and compliance with traffic laws and public safety in general. The operation also talks to the increase of police visibility around town to curb any act of crime. The campaign will run until the 30th of April 2022.
