The King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality through the Rural and Economic Development (RED) Department has been tasked with the responsibility of developing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) including Spaza Shops/Retail and Rural Development to improve economic growth and to create job opportunities in KSD Municipality.
To achieve this mandate the RED Department has recently reviewed the LED Strategy, gazetted the Informal Trade By-Law to regulate the informal trading within the KSD Municipality.
On the 15 November 2024 the President of the country Cyril Ramaphosa proclaimed that all the Spaza Shops need to register their business within a period of 21 yrs which is ending on 05 December 2024. The purpose of the session, which took place on Tuesday, 03 December, was to engage informal traders on informal trading by-law and the processes to be followed to register the Spazas/Informal Businesses.
Speaking on behalf of the King Sabata Dalindyebo Executive Mayor Cllr G.N. Nelani, MMC for Rural and Economic Development Cllr M. Dudumayo emphasized that no one is allowed to operate a business without a valid business license.
The Municipality engaged the following stakeholders in this session; SARS, Local business owners, SAPS, KSD Traditional Leaders and OR TAMBO District Municipality.
