COFFEE BAY ROAD TO GET UPGRADE

The Department of Transport has made a promise to fix the Coffee Bay Road. The intervention follows the concerns from the public regarding the dire state of this route from Viedgesville leading to Coffee Bay.

The Minister of Transport, Mr Fikile Mbalula announced during the Stakeholder Engagement Session held on Friday, August 3, 2022, in Coffee Bay that the road has been handed over to South African National Road Agency Limited (SANRAL).

A cost estimate of R300 million will be used for the construction of the road, which will be built in three phases. The work will start in September 2022, and pothole filling will be implemented in the interim.

Coffee Bay is one of the most popular tourism destinations in the country and international tourists would visit this untamed coast every year.

The improvement of the road will have a positive impact on economic development of KSD as Coffee Bay has been designated as the third Town of KSD.

On top of that, the refurbishment will reduce the number of accidents on the road that have occurred on R411 because of its terrible condition.
