The Department of Agriculture hosted a successful Agricultural Show in King Sabata Dalindyebo at Mthatha Stadium on the 4th of September 2025. The day brought an opportunity for farmers to showcase their produce, like vegetables, fruit, and livestock, and also to connect with other members of the farming community and learn about new trends in the sector.
These producers came from various local municipalities under OR Tambo District Municipality, such as
– King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality
– Mhlontlo Local Municipality
– Nyandeni Local Municipality
– Port St Johns Local Municipality
– Ingquza Hill Local Municipality
Participants also received vouchers starting from R20 000.00 to R5000.00 as support to stir up their farming endeavours.
MEC for Agriculture, Ms. Nonceba Kontsiwe, expressed her admiration for local producers in Mthatha, in the O. R. Tambo District, who have made great strides towards getting involved in the agricultural value chain while calling on more farmers to join in the efforts, adding that this will make it easier for the government to support farmers towards commercialisation.
The initiative is part of celebrating progress and empowerment and ensuring food security in our province.
