KSD POLICE OFFICERS ARREST TWO SUSPECTS IN CONNECTION WITH POWER CABLE THEFT

In a significant breakthrough in the fight against copper cable theft and corruption, the King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Public Safety Department arrested two foreign nationals in the early hours of Friday (22 August 2025) morning, around 05:00, in the village of Emaweleni, located just outside the Mthatha CBD. The two suspects, aged 38 and 25 were found in possession of five large sacks filled with copper, collectively weighing approximately 150 000 kilograms, found in the vehicle they were driving.

Upon arrest, the suspects attempted to bribe the officers with R10 000 in cash. Law enforcement officials, in adherence to protocol and integrity received the cash as part of the evidence for further investigation. In a disturbing twist, a third individual, alleged to be the mastermind behind the operation and who was not present at the time of arrest, arrived at the police station later in the morning and offered an additional bribe of R3 000 in cash in an effort to secure the release of the suspects. This bold attempt to manipulate the justice system only strengthens the case against the individuals involved.

The KSD Municipality condemns any and all forms of criminality and corruption, and this incident highlights the department’s unwavering commitment to upholding the law and reducing criminal networks. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, and further charges relating to bribery and organised crime may be added.

The Municipality is urging residents to come forward and report any illegal activities that may happen around them because anything that is destroyed around their communities affects them. They can report to this number: 047 495 1037 available 24/7.
