KSD Municipality has the monumental task of creating a conducive environment for economic growth setting the foundation for job creation, small business development and investment opportunities.
KSD jurisdiction is currently experiencing high rate of unemployment especially among young people.
In light of the above, KSDM hosted a business breakfast this morning to strengthen working relations between the municipality and business sector at large.
Different topics were discussed and resolutions were taken to better working relationship with businesses. The session also provided networking opportunities for local businesses to access new ideas to grow networks for successful growth of their businesses.
Minister for finance Mr. Enoch Godogwana was part of the engagement session. He touched on the issue of court cases opened against municipalities by contractors, alluding that this affects municipalities negatively as these challenges delay development and service delivery.
He also mentioned that residents together with citizens at large must pay rates in order for municipalities to function efficiently.
Executive Mayor, Cllr Nyaniso Nelani in his opening remarks shared the various business opportunities available in developing private sector partnerships and provided insights on local economic development.
Specifically, the development of the Special Economic Zone which addresses the issue of unemployment and potential support of local cooperatives.
He also presented opportunities for investment and development within KSD, mentioning Coffee Bay as oceans economic hub of KSD.
The engagement session also afforded businesses to directly engage the municipality on the new policy developments.
KSDM has informed businesses of new policies and strategies intended for their support and informed them on proposed new investment projects and developments.
Many present in the audience took advantage of the opportunity to ask the municipality questions about problems they had been experiencing.
