KSD Municipality led by Executive Mayor, His Worship Cllr Nyaniso Nelani was on Friday, 29 October 2021 at Mqanduli Multi-Purpose Centre to unveil two major projects that are intended to revitalise Mqanduli town.
The first project is the construction of Mqanduli Driving Learner’s Testing Centre (DLTC) that is worth R25.7 million. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Office of the Premier under Small Town Revitilisation programme. The construction is set to take a period of 12 months starting from November 2021.
The municipality has appointed Vitsha Trading to construct this center that will make the life for those who needs driving licence easy.
The facility will have two eye testing rooms and two boardrooms to cater for meetings and writing of learner’s licence, offices, a strong room, ablution facilities and parking. There will also be a provision of a standby generator and water tank.
A minimum of 50 jobs have been created for locals and 5 SMMEs will benefit from the project.
The second project launched was the upgrade of Viegies to Sawmill Roads. The stretch is 2.2km and 5 metres wide with sidewalks.
The project will be implemented by Thewo Engineering Consulting and Thalami-Alfred JV Company.
A minimum of 30 people will be employed and 2 SMMEs will benefit from the project as subcontractors.
An amount of R17.6 million has been set aside for this project. The scope of work includes roadbed preparation, stormwater drainage, kerbing, pavement layers, asphalt, road signs and marking.
The aim of these initiatives is to create a conducive environment in order to stimulate economic growth, attract investments and improve services for Mqanduli community.
