King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality has on Tuesday, 21 June 2022 visited Mpafane JSS and Kanyisa JSS schools at ward 34 to hand over 100 school shoes. The program is part of the ongoing back-to-school efforts, which aims to provide assistance to students in need, as well as one of the activities to celebrate Youth Month.
The initiative is backed through sponsorships received from private sectors. As a results, the hand over was done in partnership with Merensky Langeni Swamil. Each school received 50 pairs of shoes, which were distributed to the students who the schools determined to be in the greatest need.
The Back to School Programme was started by the government to promote learner well-being and prevent school dropout by learners due to hardship that students are facing, such as not having a uniform, school shoes, and sanitary towels, said Cllr Noluvuyo Mayi, the Member of the Mayoral Committee and the Portfolio Head for Special Programs Unit during the handover.
Parents and educators expressed their appreciation for the kind gesture from the municipality.
